Abstract

For every profitable entity, regardless the sector of operating, the question of long term planning and strategy management has been always the principal one. To pursue sustainable operations over the time companies and their managers have to find and employ efficient tools to evaluate potential directions presenting in the current environment and choose the right course to achieve successful results. The current thesis work is aimed to derive the theoretical foundation and develop a practical solution in order to support the process of evaluation and decision making about potential investment opportunities. Specific business sector of interest to develop investments appraisal Model is the power industry including all relevant aspects of the energy markets and participating players, technological features of electricity generation and available opportunities to capitalize. The Model for country level analysis of risks and opportunities in the power sector enables understanding and sound analysis of the country risks, tracks the choice of the optimal geographical market and also supports numerical analysis of the net present value of hypothetical investments in a range of applicable generation technologies particularly for the chosen market alternative. Development process takes into account contextual framework of the industry and relies on the substantial review of available theoretical propositions and derived practical implementations. Starting from the conceptual framework the following report presents detailed design and elaboration of the Model in question. Results achieved in the practical test of Model application in a case study and theoretical contributions are as well discussed.
