Mega-events, including Olympic Games, World Cup, and International Expositions are among the highest profile projects in the world today. Abstract
Mega-events, including Olympic Games, World Cup, and International Expositions are among the highest profile projects in the world today. As temporary, one-time undertakings requiring massive investments and involving millions of staff, spectators and visitors, Mega-events are frequently cited by some politicians, media reporters and laypersons as anachronisms particularly in light of contemporary concerns for sustainability. However, several recent events, such as the Shanghai Expo 2010 and London’s Summer Olympics of 2012, have made significant efforts to promote sustainable practices and to foster a culture of sensitivity to the consequences of large-scale, mass attendance events. A survey of all of the sustainability issues surrounding Mega-events would, it may be anticipated, require an extensive effort requiring multiple researchers over a period of many months and perhaps years. Focusing on one particular type of Mega-event - the International Exposition or Expo - and a specific criteria which is an important part of Expos – the sustainable influence impact of Expo on the City . Planning for the event from various aspects, with the overall upgrading of the urban and environmental quality of the city after the event as one of the main themes for this project. As the history of World Expositions reflects the progress of how human societies relate to nature. Since the inauguration of the first Expo in London in 1851, more than 40 fairs have been organized. Achievements of the industrial revolution were dominant themes of the Expos in the 19th century, while those in the 20th century focused primarily on economic prosperity and technological progress with occasional calls for a peaceful world. The transformation of a city architecture, urban planning policy and the vision of the urban spatial structure will be analyzed in this paper.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
