La casa avita di Alessandro Volta, cuore del percorso voltiano a Como

The thesis deals with the legacy that Alessandro Volta left to Como. The pieces of Volta's heritage scattered in the city are, as of today, not properly highlighted and mostly unknown to the public. Concrete proof of the bond between the city and its famous citizen is Palazzo Volta. Situated near the city walls, it's the result of the annexation of a number of adjacent units dating back to the XVI century. Despite its historic importance, today this valuable part of the Volta's heritage accommodates residencies and tertiary facilities, completely detached from the city's cultural offer. This detachment has been later viewed as an opportunity to reevaluate the entirety of the physicist's legacy, substantial but lacking a strong identity. Having consolidated our historical base about Volta, analyzed the structure of the house and studied in deep its historical context gave us the idea of restoring the historic dignity of such an illustrious man's house. Target of our research became the will to renew the interest of the public towards the great physicist, returning to the community fragments of its history and heritage.

Il nostro percorso di tesi si è articolato in un contesto mirato alla riorganizzazione delle testimonianze voltiane presenti a Como, attualmente non adeguatamente valorizzate e purtroppo sconosciute ai più. Eredità concreta del legame tra la città lariana e il suo più celebre rappresentante è Palazzo Volta, situato sul confine della Città Murata e risultante dall’annessione di quattro nuclei attigui di matrice cinquecentesca. Nonostante la notevole importanza storica, questo gioiello del patrimonio voltiano si presenta oggi come un’architettura per la residenza, il terziario e i servizi, totalmente estraneo all’attuale proposta culturale offerta dalla città. Tale estraneità, inizialmente appresa con stupore, è in seguito stata colta come un’opportunità per rivalutare l’intero lascito voltiano, consistente ma senza una forte identità. Consolidata la base teorica, indagata la struttura intrinseca e approfondito il contesto di riferimento, l’idea di ridare finalmente dignità all’antica dimora di un uomo tanto illustre è scaturita di conseguenza. Restituire alla comunità frammenti di storia, eredità e bellezze voltiane sconosciute, al fine di rinnovare l’interesse nei confronti del sommo fisico e riscoprire parti di città apparentemente nascoste, è stata quindi la prerogativa della nostra ipotesi di riuso.
