The purpose of this thesis is to present the work done during the internship at purchasing office of Siram S.p.a. The work concerned the analysis of the contracts of "global service" and the procedures for the purchase of natural gas. The term “global service” refers to a sale contract with the aim to manage an integrated manner several services, typically the supply of thermic energy. In particular, the attention was paid on the contracts of heath management in order to build a portfolio structure. The main purpose of this project at Siram was to understand the specific strategy to develop the natural gas purchase. Currently, this strategy is very different to the one implemented for the purchase of gas in Siram. The company's gas purchase strategy is based on the model of "procurement" which expects raising competitions to choose the most appropriate supplier. This model takes in consideration the purchase of gas in one only solution and it is determined according to the annual requirements of the client. The acquired gas is delivered to the PdR (point of delivery) according to the requirements of the plant. This model shows some limitations because it considers only the best supply conditions, without assessing in details the contractual requirements of the customer who makes the purchase. This is the current priority: to minimize the cost of gas without considering the high risk supported by the supplier and the volatility-risk of commodities. In this model, volatility risk is unmanaged. Therefore we need to tie the cost of gas to the sales in order to manage the activities in the perspective of “portfolio”. This is the main goal of the new strategy. The new strategy was not implemented in this thesis, but there have been some hypothesis to implement on specific contracts.. The methodology used for the contracts analysis was the clustering of sales. It was implemented according to the variables identified in the same contracts
