Crawl through the landscape. A new tramline for the city of Shiraz, Iran

This project focuses on the metropolitan area of the City of Shiraz in the Islamic Republic of Iran. The work mainly consists of the design of a new infrastructure – a tramline for the north-west sector of the city – and an in-depth landscape study of the integration with the wider territorial area as well as of mitigation solutions. Infrastructure-based redevelopment of metropolitan areas with a strong public-space and environmental quality improvement, largely consolidated in Europe, represents a strongly innovative approach for the Iranian context. According to the current situation of the city of Shiraz’s growth through time, the current situation of the city on the north-west part as an under developing metropolitan area, the existing of the train station of Shiraz city in the north-west axis, the presence of new residential complexes due to the saturation of the city, lack of public spaces, Green loss of the agricultural fields and gardens due to the invasion to the city, poor system of public transport which leads to the traffic jam in one of the main axis toward the new town of Sadra and other cities near Shiraz, all brought the idea to propose a strategy first to reduce the number of cars in this area and second to integrate with the landscape and the people while bringing back the lost green areas of the past with a new language and the most important of all, creating areas that people shape them by their presence and also they shape the activities of the people and serve them new spots in which people can let their hair down and take some times off the hectic world outside. The idea is to experiment a tool of European cities with a different language in Iran. The idea is Implementing and designing a tramline along the way from Shiraz to the entrance of new towns around the city and the train station which seems quite reasonable and interesting. On the one hand it is quite new infrastructure for Iranian cities and due to its significant role it will reduce the traffic, the pollution and will enrich the public transport of the area. On the other hand, what make the project significant, are the interactive vast stops on the way of the tramline. These stops will add another function to the project that it will not be any more just a tramway, but it will bring another phase of integration with the landscape and the surrounding areas. New public facilities around each stop serve to the residents, daily travelers, tourists of all generations and all classes of the society the same opportunity to be a part of it. So the project is a technical solution, a landscape performance and a physical and visual link between centers.

Il progetto si concentra su l'area metropolitana della città di Shiraz nella Repubblica islamica dell'Iran. Il lavoro consiste principalmente della progettazione di una nuova infrastruttura - una linea tranviaria per il settore nord-ovest della città - e uno studio approfondito paesaggio della integrazione con l'area territoriale più ampia, nonché di soluzioni di mitigazione. Riqualificazione infrastrutturale delle aree metropolitane, con un forte spazio pubblico e il miglioramento della qualità ambientale, in gran parte consolidata in Europa, rappresenta un approccio fortemente innovativo per il contesto iraniano. Secondo la situazione attuale della città di crescita di Shiraz nel tempo, la situazione attuale della città nella parte nord-occidentale come in fase di sviluppo dell'area metropolitana, l'esistente della stazione ferroviaria della città di Shiraz sull'asse nord-ovest, il presenza di nuovi complessi residenziali dovute alla saturazione della città, mancanza di spazi pubblici, perdita verde dei campi agricoli e giardini dovuta all'invasione alla città, poveri sistema di trasporto pubblico che conduce al traffico in uno dei principali asse verso la nuova città di Sadra e di altre città vicine Shiraz, tutto portato l'idea di proporre una strategia prima di ridurre il numero di auto in questo settore e la seconda per l'integrazione con il paesaggio e la gente portando indietro le aree verdi perdute della passato con un nuovo linguaggio e il più importante di tutti, la creazione di aree che la gente li forma con la loro presenza e anche loro modellare le attività delle persone e di servirli nuovi punti in cui le persone possono lasciarsi andare e prendere alcune volte fuori dal frenetico mondo esterno. L'idea è quella di sperimentare uno strumento di città europee con una lingua diversa in Iran. L'idea sta attuando e la progettazione di una linea tranviaria lungo la strada da Shiraz a l'ingresso di nuovi centri per la città e la stazione ferroviaria che sembra abbastanza ragionevole e interessante. Da un lato è abbastanza nuova infrastruttura per città iraniane e grazie al suo ruolo significativo ridurrà il traffico, l'inquinamento e verrà arricchire il trasporto pubblico della zona. D'altra parte, ciò che rende il progetto significativo, sono le vaste tappe interattive sulla strada della linea tranviaria. Queste fermate aggiungerà un'altra funzione al progetto che non sarà più solo un tram, ma porterà un'altra fase di integrazione con il paesaggio e le aree circostanti. Nuove strutture pubbliche intorno a ogni fermata servono ai residenti, i viaggiatori al giorno, i turisti di tutte le generazioni e di tutte le classi della società stessa opportunità di essere una parte di esso. Così il progetto è una soluzione tecnica, una performance paesaggio e un collegamento fisico e visivo tra i centri.
