Five cities for Vitória : a thematic design approach

This masters’ thesis presents a thematic design approach for a territorial interpretation to the city of Vitória, Espíri- to Santo, Brazil. In the light of European planning experiences such as Bologna’s Structure Plan and the structure project developed for Antwerp, the research explores the gaps in Brazilian planning system, finding room to fit a new representation to Vitória – depicted in a set of five Cities – in between the available legal framework. Also, it presents a series of explorative projects, structured in three themes – soft, structural and organic – which enable new urban possibilities to transform the environment in both short-term and long-term scenarios.

Questa tesi di Master presenta un approccio progettuale tematico per un’interpretazione territoriale della città di Vitória, Brasile. Alla luce delle esperienze europee di pianificazione come il Piano Strutturale di Bologna e il proget- to sviluppato ad Anversa, la ricerca esplora le lacune nel sistema di pianificazione brasiliano, trovando spazio per inserire una nuova rappresentazione di Vitória - raffigurato in una serie di cinque città - nel quadro giuridico attuale a livello urbanistico. Inoltre, presenta una serie di progetti esplorativi, strutturati in tre temi - leggeri, strutturali ed organici - che consentono nuove possibilità urbane per trasformare l’ambiente, sia nel breve che nel lungo ter- mine.
