This thesis investigates the application of BIM – Building Information Modeling – method to existing buildings with artistic and cultural value pertaining to the architectural heritage, considering as a case study the Certosa di Pavia. The modeling of a portion of the Church, assumed as the most significant for spatial organization and architectural complexity, is aimed to verify the validity of the digital modeling software, defining limits and benefits, proving also the collaborative attitude characterizing the BIM through interoperability of IFC Standard. The strategic aim is to use the BIM model as a geometric reference for the establishment of an Information System that supports the Planned Conservation of the Certosa di Pavia. The creation of a unique Relational Database promotes the accessibility and the exchange of all the information related to the facility, ensuring an integrated approach for the study, the analysis and the design of the projects, in order to increase the quality and the effectiveness of the interventions.
