The main objective of the paper is to present two types of micromachined hole measurement through dealing with some real cases. An experimental campaign was set up to provide micro holes on a flat sheet of carbon steel. Electro Discharge Machining (EDM) technique was used to reach this goal. Two different sets of EDM parameters were used, performing a more aggressive operation (roughing) and a finishing one. Electrode wear and machining times were recorded. Pictures of the holes were taken using a metallurgical microscope and measurements were carried out by fitting the images by a circle using an image processing software. An automatic program based on gray level diagrams was developed as well. Both the entry side of the sheet (front) and the exit side (back) were studied. The measure of the diameters, yielded by both techniques, were compared and related with the corresponding machining information. Finally, a study of stereoscopic reconstruction techniques for micromachined holes is presented.
L’obiettivo principale del lavoro e’ quello di presentare due metodi di misura per microfori, studiando applicazioni a casi reali. E’ stata condotta una campagna sperimentale per realizzare microfori su lamierini piani di acciaio al carbonio. La tecnologia impiegata a questo scopo e’ l’elettroerosione a tuffo (Electro Discherge Machining, EDM). Sono stati impiegati due diverse configurazioni di parametri di processo, realizzando una rimozione piu’ aggressiva (simile alla sgrossatura) e una lavorazione di finitura. In tutti i casi, l’usura dell’elettrodo e la durata delle operazioni sono state registrate. I microfori ottenuti sono stati osservati e fotografati al microscopio ottico, l’impiego di un software di gestione delle immagini ha consentito di identificare e misurare i bordi dei fori sovrapponendo manualmente un cerchio a ciascuna immagine. A questo scopo, e’ stato realizzato un codice di calcolo, basato sulla costruzione di diagrammi di scale di grigio. Sono stati cosi’ misurati entrambi i lati (ingresso ed uscita) dei fori passanti. I rilievi dei diametri, generati dalle procedure manuale ed automatica, sono stati confrontati tra di loro e correlati alle condizioni operative della lavorazione. Il lavoro si conclude presentando uno studio sulla possibilita’ di utilizzo di tecniche fotogrammetriche per il rilievo tridimensionale dei bordi dei microfori, utilizzando immagini ottenute con un microscopio elettronico a scansione (Scanning Electron Microscope, SEM).
