De.M.E.T.R.A is a project that comes from the workshop “Architecture for Archaeology” that took place on October 2013 inside the Valley of Temples, world heritage site. The aim of the workshop was to design and realize ah shelter for the protection of the archaeological remains, taking care about the topics of the tutelage of ruins and comfort for archaeologists who work during the excavation campaign. At the end of the experience some problems appeared: some areas in- side the Valley need a re-thinking of landscape and functional aspects. The proposal is a new museum itinerary that value archaeological re- mains by using simple architectural technologies. The different projects proposed want to improve the site walkability, services for tourists, parc of the Valley of Temples administration, ar- chaeologists but also the protection of the ruins. In a large scale, as the urbanistic one, the study shows different paths for people who pass throughot the Valley by foot or by MTB. From an architectural and techological point of view, three are the inter- vention designed: an Infopoint at the beginnig of the path, a minimum size unit for a temporary refreshment of archaeologists, a shelter to protect the blocks of the Demetra sanctuary. Beside the use of local materials such as wood and stones, an experi- mental study is led on the use of cardboard in architecture. Some analysis and tests show the behaviour of the cardboard packed in a wall: methodologies and test results of water and humidity resis- tance, determination of the thermal conductivity to study of energetic performance, methodologies to react to structural strains and final re- cicle of the material.
