Italy, unlike other European countries where the cultural offer is concentrated basically in some metropolitan areas, has an offer of diversified resources throughout the country, with specific and local situations, and with different level of quality. These local realities, which often struggle to find their role in the Italian tourist offer and therefore struggle to attract not only tourists and citizens but also major partners, sponsors and investors, should be considered as an added value and opportunities worthy of protection and enhancement. In order to implement this renovation in the Italian touristic offer, it is important to focus on the development of additional services of museums, seen as an empowerment and optimization tool. It is in this context where Memory Makers for your museum can fit as a service whose aim is to give the opportunity, to these small realities, to realize projects for their valorization. In particular, it deals with the design and realization of ad hoc and customized merchandising products for the promotion of the museums themselves. Products purchased at the end of a visit, in fact, are the link, the physical reminder that the visitor creates with the museum and that often, if well designed, become the ambassador of the museum itself, helper in the building of its identity. To achieve this goal, Memory Makers creates an online platform with the aim of connecting museum, designers and local fablabs. Through this platform museums can upload contests for the design of these products and have at their disposition a large community of designers. A jury will select the finalists of these contests that will be then submitted to the public opinion for the selection of the winning ideas. The products will be then prototyped and built by one of the FabLabs or makers, partners of the service. This way, Memory Makers aims at offer different features: for the museum, the possibility to create its own store and its own product line, boosting its image and creating loyalty and trust among its audience, for designers the opportunity, in addition to use the platform as a showcase for their projects, to see their products realized, for the FabLab the chance to introduce themselves to a wider public and the ability to produce objects that are then resold in the museums and finally, for the public, the possibility to give their opinion and to influence the outcome of these contest.
