Power drip. Sistema di infusione venosa per il reparto pediatrico

This dissertation rise from my desire to deal with medical design, the branch of our times that deserves attention more than the others. The end user of the project is the young patient in the hospital, a place far from home, often sterile and not very comfortable. There are many objects that collaborate to convey a sense of coldness and detachment from the "real" life, included in a context that is already populated by monsters and distorted thoughts. Among these objects, there is s the iv pole, an instrument usually used to support the intravenous infusion, that damage the freedom of movements of every patient. From the union between the desire to start treatment with a smile and with the psychological well-being and the will to overcome the functional problems, arises Power Drip, a new system for venous infusion, for the pediatric ward. Within the Power Drip system there are three types of solutions, connected together by the theme of the Superhero: the first, the uniform of the Superhero, is meant to be worn and to release the child from the iv pole, allowing him/her to perform therapy wherever he/she is; the second, the charging station of the Superhero, takes on the characteristics of a normal iv stand, adding features and improving the aesthetics. The third solution is designed to be fixed to the crib of baby or to the wheelchair, so for users unable to ambulate. The three different systems have in common the use of the infusion pump Power Drip, a lightweight, compact and extremely versatile device, which is inspired by the instruments currently on the market, in terms of features and dimensions. Thanks to the aggregation of these new systems, the small patient turns into a Superhero, equipped with its own uniform and with a charging station, next to which stand to regain its "power", or to use as a means of transport , alone or with the aid of a parent.

Alla radice di questa tesi vi è il desiderio di cimentarmi nella progettazione medicale, settore che, nella nostra contemporaneità, merita più di tutti grande attenzione. L’utente finale del progetto è il piccolo paziente ricoverato in ospedale, un luogo lontano da casa, spesso asettico e poco confortevole. Sono tanti gli oggetti che collaborano a trasmettere il senso di freddezza e di distacco dalla vita “reale”, inseriti in un contesto che già di per se è popolato da mostri e da pensieri distorti. Tra questi oggetti vi è la piantana porta flebo, uno strumento spesso di intralcio, più che di aiuto, che mina fortemente la libertà di movimento di qualsiasi paziente, normalmente utilizzato come supporto per qualunque tipologia di terapia endovenosa. Dal desiderio di iniziare la cura con il sorriso e con il benessere psicologico, unito alla volontà di superare problematiche di natura funzionale nasce Power Drip, un nuovo sistema per l’infusione venosa per il reparto pediatrico. All’interno del sistema Power Drip vi sono tre tipologie di soluzioni, accomunate tra di loro dal tema del Supereroe: la prima, la divisa del Supereroe, è pensata per essere indossata e per svincolare il bambino dall’asta porta flebo, permettendogli di effettuare la terapia in qualunque posto si trovi; la seconda, la stazione di ricarica del Supereroe, riprende le caratteristiche di una normale piantana da ospedale, aggiungendone funzionalità e migliorandone l’estetica. Infine, la terza soluzione è pensata per essere fissata ai lettini dei neonati o alle sedie a rotelle, dunque per l’utenza impossibilitata a deambulare. Le tre tipologie sono accomunate all’utilizzo della pompa per infusione Power Drip, un dispositivo leggero, compatto ed estremamente versatile, che prende ispirazione dalle strumentazioni attualmente presenti sul mercato, in termini di funzionalità e di ingombri. Grazie all’aggregazione di questi nuovi sistemi, il piccolo paziente si trasforma in un Supereroe, dotato di una propria divisa e di una stazione di ricarica, accanto alla quale sostare per poter riacquisire i propri “poteri”, oppure da usare come mezzo di trasporto, da solo o con l’aiuto di un genitore.
