Heritage, identity, urban growth. Towards integration for Doha's evolving identity

The thesis is part of studies involving the cities of the Emirates who have experienced the economic boom and consequently a dizzying urban growth. I focus on the theme of identity, as I want to deny the idea of artificiality that nowadays is commonly associated to these places. I chose the case of Doha because it represents an exception since for several reasons its development occurred later than Abu Dhabi and Dubai and this has enabled it to manage growth with more consciousness thus preserving its identity.

La tesi si inserisce nell’ambito di studi che interessano le città degli Emirati che hanno vissuto il boom economico e di conseguenza una vertiginosa crescita urbana. Mi concentro sul tema dell’identità in quanto voglio negare l’idea di artificialità che si è ormai diffusa quando si parla di questi posti. Ho scelto il caso di Doha perché rappresenta un’eccezione in quanto per varie ragioni il suo sviluppo si è verificato successivamente ad Abu Dhabi e Dubai e questo le ha permesso di gestire la crescita con più coscienza preservando quindi la sua identità.
