Abstract
Aluminum and reinforced composites are becoming popular in industrial sector because they allow weight reduction, but still maintain high performance. To avoid catastrophic failures, structures are periodically checked by nondestructive test during planned outages. Maintenance and repair account for a considerable operating costs. The use of condition-based maintenance, coupled with continuous structural integrity monitoring, can significantly reduce the cost of programmed inspections. In recent years the use of Lamb waves techniques is becoming more and more interesting in the ultrasonic investigation because they are faster to use and cost-effective. The present work characterize the elastic-acoustic properties of aluminum and CFRP comparing experimental results with theoretical ones. It also study the interaction of Lamb waves with a notch in the plate. In particular the experimental tests and finite element simulations compete in defining the variability of the response compared to the size and orientation of the notch. It wil then be proposed a multi-parameter method for evaluating the reliability of the monitoring health system.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
