The word of "Jia Li" is derived from the Chinese traditional culture. "Jia" has the meaning of luckiness, goodness, it refers to some rituals and ceremonies like wedding, festival ritual, rite of passage. However, with the development of the society, many ancient ritual activities of Jia Li gradually disappear, but only the wedding ceremony is still widely used in contemporary society, in fact, it becomes the form of ritual which is held most frequently. The Scope of this paper will focus on one of Jia Li ritual ceremonies ——the space design of wedding ceremonies. With the improvement of urban living standard, people pay more attention to the spiritual satisfaction and have more and more needs of rites and ceremonies. The content of ritural activity and behavior have been changing over time , so contemporary society also needs more new wedding ceremony apace to meet the contemporary spirit of the age. However, exiting contemporary wedding ceremony space has some general problems, for example, in the respect of content is empty conventional talk , lack of connotation; in the respect of space, it lacks some details and specific design, the existing commercial spaces (such as hotel, club, restaurant) which adopt standardized facilities, are unable to meet the complicated needs of the wedding ceremonies in many ways. Therefore, contemporary wedding space design in modern cities should concern the spiritual expression of memorial, and meet full functional requirements at the same time : how to influence people's behavior through space language in order to advocate more cultural connotation ; How to use design language to provide with finer sense of quality and more cultural element in wedding ceremony space; How to find out contemporary urban space language of the ceremony layout, arrangement, traffic line, lighting, space sequence ... These questions make up a topic that is worth discussing. This paper firstly introduces the development of the Chinese and western traditional wedding ceremony space, and then does research and analysis in two aspects, one is on existing space situation and the other is on young man's internal needs for the wedding ceremony. Then this paper comes up with design principles and key points, on the basis of this, mainly discusses a variety of space layouts and specific methods ot improve space mood in new wedding ceremonies. Finally this paper applies conceptual design to practical project through development design proposal of Beijing Xun clubhouse.
