Identification, calibration and transmigration of sustainable urban public spaces in Jaipur (India): emerging urban and architectural frontiers for a sustainable city

The project intends to be a chronological documentation and analytical research on the various types of public spaces of Jaipur that have been a part of the city both, then and now. A recollection of their origin, their purpose, their mutation and their resilience or capacity to cope with the growing urban pressure, followed by an in-depth review of their standing against the scale of sustainability. The main objectives of the research are to: 1. Identify, study and optimally redevelop the different type of public spaces that already exist in Jaipur 2. Propose new pockets in light of the city’s socio-cultural domain of traditions, newly acquired cosmopolitanism and future sustainability. 3. Study their origins, purpose, mutation and adaptation over the centuries (in case of the historical) 4. Study their fruitfulness & success as an urban space and their resilience towards the demanding urban pressure (in case of the new) 5. Evaluate how these (both historical and the new) spaces fare on “Sustainability Calibration” 6. What challenges (social, economic, political, infrastructural and cultural) and problems do they face? 7. How can they contribute towards sustainable growth of the city? 8. How can they themselves be made sustainable? The research looks forward to provide the city of Jaipur with a highly efficient and optimum network of public spaces that will not only do their part in conventional terms but contribute actively and tremendously to a sustainable growth of the city. The research shall deal with the issues of urban development that lie in immediate vicinity of these public spaces like population density, urban and architectural character of the surrounding buildings and their relationship with these spaces, the streetscapes & landscapes, etc. How the local culture completely and totally dominates and dictates the character of these spaces in India. How these spaces used to behave differently in different time periods and how they have transformed themselves over the years, some in order to keep surviving and others in order to give way to new functions and spaces.

Il progetto intende essere un documentazione cronologica e la ricerca analitica sui vari tipi di spazi pubblici di Jaipur che hanno fatto parte della città sia, allora come oggi. Un ricordo della loro origine, il loro scopo, la loro mutazione e la loro capacità di recupero o la capacità di far fronte alla crescente pressione urbana, seguito da un esame approfondito della loro posizione contro la scala della sostenibilità. I principali obiettivi della ricerca sono: 1. Identificare, studio e ottimamente riqualificare i diversi tipi di spazi pubblici già esistenti in Jaipur 2. Proporre nuove sacche in luce dominio della città, socio-culturale delle tradizioni, il cosmopolitismo acquisite e sostenibilità futura. 3. Studiare la loro origine, le finalità, la mutazione e l'adattamento nel corso dei secoli (in caso di storico) 4. studiare la loro fecondità e successo come spazio urbano e la loro resistenza nei confronti della pressione urbana impegnativa (in caso di nuovo) 5. Valutare come questi (sia storici che nuovi) spazi caveranno su "Sostenibilità Calibration" 6. Quali sfide (sociali, economiche, politiche, infrastrutturali e culturali) e problemi devono affrontare? 7. Come possono contribuire alla crescita sostenibile della città? 8. Come essi stessi essere resi sostenibili? La ricerca vede l'ora di dotare la città di Jaipur, con una rete altamente efficiente e ottimale degli spazi pubblici che non solo fare la loro parte in termini convenzionali, ma contribuire attivamente e tremendamente a una crescita sostenibile della città. La ricerca deve affrontare le questioni dello sviluppo urbano che si trovano nelle immediate vicinanze di questi spazi pubblici come la densità di popolazione, urbana e carattere architettonico degli edifici circostanti e il loro rapporto con questi spazi, i streetscapes e paesaggi, ecc Come la cultura locale completamente e totalmente domina e impone il carattere di questi spazi in India. Come questi spazi utilizzati per comportarsi in modo diverso in diversi periodi di tempo e di come essi stessi hanno trasformato nel corso degli anni, un po 'in modo da mantenere sopravvivere e altri per dare modo a nuove funzioni e spazi.
