Kituo Cha Watoto community center in Chigongwe, Tanzania

The thesis work was born following a trip made with my father in August 2015 in Tanzania where I came in direct contact with the non-profit organization "Kisedet" which operates in the central region of the state, more precisely in the region of Dodoma, political capital of Tanzania. The main purpose of the association is to achieve sustainable socio-economic part of the people who benefit from the help of Kisedet, according to lifestyle and social context in which they are part. Over time the association has increasingly turned the attention to a highly sensitive issue that is continuously increasing: the street children. And is for this reason that the association has decided to create a new center outside the city of Dodoma and more precisely in Chigongwe. And so in 2012 it started a small pilot project in Chigongwe involving five boys and a Kisedet operator: they were built two buildings, one in which children live and sleep and one that serves as a warehouse, and it was also created a vegetable garden in which the guys can grow up fruits and vegetables This was the first step of the project and is also the current state of progress. The second step involves the construction of a hostel for children / teens, construction of a building used as a dining hall, kitchen, office and rooms for operators, furniture and structures blocking bathrooms. The third and final step involves a series of useful services to the development of practical skills of the boys: the construction of structures used for the keeping of small animals, a small carpentry workshop and one of mechanical (that can become also study classrooms), acquisition of basic farm equipment, construction of a guest-house and finally construction of recreational and sports facilities. This entire program for about 40 children and the association staff.

Il lavoro di Tesi nasce in seguito a un viaggio intrapreso con mio padre nell’agosto del 2015 in Tanzania in cui sono venuto a diretto contatto con la Onlus “Kisedet” che opera nella regione centrale dello Stato, più precisamente nella regione di Dodoma, capitale politica della Tanzania. Lo scopo principale dell’associazione è il raggiungimento dello sviluppo socio-economico da parte delle persone che beneficiano dell’aiuto di Kisedet, in base allo stile di vita e al contesto sociale del quale queste fanno parte. Nel tempo l’associazione ha rivolto sempre più l’attenzione verso una tematica molto sensibile e soprattutto in continuo aumento: i bambini di strada. E’ proprio per questo che l’associazione ha deciso di creare un nuovo centro fuori dalla città di Dodoma e più precisamente a Chigongwe. E così nel 2012 è iniziato un piccolo progetto pilota a Chigongwe a cui partecipano cinque ragazzi e un operatore di Kisedet: sono stati costruiti due edifici, uno in cui i ragazzi vivono e dormono e uno che funge da magazzino ed inoltre è stato creato un orto in cui poter coltivare frutta e verdure. Questo è stato il primo passo del progetto ed è anche l’attuale stato di avanzamento. Il secondo step prevede la costruzione di un ostello per i bambini/ragazzi, costruzione di un edificio adibito a refettorio, cucina, ufficio e stanze per gli operatori, arredamento strutture e il blocco bagni. Il terzo ed ultimo step prevede una serie di servizi utili allo sviluppo delle abilità pratiche dei ragazzi: costruzione di strutture adibite all’allevamento di piccoli animali, un piccolo laboratorio di falegnameria e uno di meccanica che possanoanche diventare aule didattiche, acquisizione di attrezzatura agricola di base, costruzione di una guest-house per ospiti ed infine costruzione di strutture ricreative e sportive. Tutto questo programma per circa 40 bambini più gli operatori.
