According to the general topic named “Linking”, the design has as background the Mediterranean Basin in one of its very historically crucial area as the Messina Strait is. Main frame-work is the strategy planned by local Authorities to improve connections between Sicily and the Mainland, establishing a “Messina-Strait Rapid Transit System”, also predicted to develop a social and economical legacy onto the strait. To the existing situation of Messina-Port corresponds the renewal of the port-infrastructure for Reggio-Calabria, qualified as new terminal for the short-shipping service operating between the two cities. Focus is the new ferry-terminal for passengers by “Caronte and Tourist Spa” Company in its generl lay-out, here acquired to propose a “forerunner of a class”: a ferry-station designed as hub-system between land and sea, offering facilities to figure-out a gateway between Messina and Reggio-Calabria. A gathering-place, a technical device to board ferries, the design is also predicted in using as first-aid/logistic centre to host immigrants, exiles and refugees: nowadays Ulysses looking to break-off the Wait of their Penelopes. Looking to the heritage of the myth, Charon the-ferryman, is still bringing souls through-out the shores where Reggio-Calabria faces Messina and Scylla is still waiting for Charybdis.
