Tirana. Thematic creative hubs (TCH)

After the fall of communism in Albania, a period of political and economical transition passed. A transition, sometimes traumatic, that would change the urban realities in the country and reshape the form of Albanian cities. This thesis explains how this transition happened, what form did the cities take and what is the current situation. The purpose of this work is to set up framework under which the situation can be observed and to propose valid solutions through carefully studied interventions. We focused, mainly, on ex industrial areas, partially or totally abandoned, and often occupied by informal buidlings. We belive that these areas have a great, unveilded potential that could change the degrading situation and serve as urban activators for the development of the respective neighbourhoods and the whole city. We created a guideline, a set or rules, toolkit of how this areas can be changed. The guideline gives directives and orientations on how the interventions should be carried out. The base of our propsoal is about the concept of cultural creative industries and the application of such concept in Tirana. We decided to develop the six chosen areas as thematic hubs. We chose one specific area, as a simulator where we applied the directives given by the guideline Our idea is to turn the old factory complex into an exhibitioand technology hub, with ties to fashion and textile to recall the memory of what this industrial giant was before. Finally, the six areas are connected with each other through the hub network which makes them part of one single body , focused on cultural creative indsutries.

Dopo la caduta del comunismo in Albania, un periodo ti transizone economica e politica paso. Una transizione, a volte traumatica, che avrebbe cambiato le realta urbani nel paese e rimodellare la forma delle citta albanesi. Questi tesi spiega come e sucesso questa transizione, la forma che le citta ha preso, e qual e la situazione atuale. Lo scopo di questo lavoro e di impostare una struttura sotto la quale la situazione si puo osservare e di proporre soluzione valide atraverso interventi attentamente studiati. Ci siamo concentrati principalmente on aree ex industriali, parzialmente o totalmente abandonate, e spesso ocupate da edifici informali.Siamo fiduciosi che queste aree dispongono di un grande potenziale nascosto, che puo cambiare la situazione e servire come attivator urbani per lo sviluppo dei quartieri rispettivi e di tutta la citta. Abbiamo creato un orientamento, un set di regole, un toolkit, di come queste aree si possono cambiare. L’orientamento da delle indicazioni su come gli interventi devono essere effetuati. Il concetto di base della nostra proposta riguarda il concetto delle industrie creative culturali, e l’aplicazzione di tale concetto a Tirana. Abbiamo sceto di svilupare le aree come sei hub tematici. Abbiamo poi scelto una delle area come simulatore , dove abbiamo applicate le direttive date dall’orientamnto.La nostra idea e quella di trasformare l’area in un hub di Esibizioni e Tecnologia, collegato alla moda e al tessile, per ricordare la memoria di questo ex colosso industriale. Alla fine, le sei aree sono connesse attraverso la rete dei hub tematici, che le fa parte di un corpo singolo focalizatto sulle industrie creative culturali.
