Nuove vocazioni per il Seminario Vescovile di Reggio Emilia. Studi e strumenti per la valorizzazione dell'architettura moderna

The tale is mainly divided in three chapters: past, present and future. The first one describes the Episcopal Seminary in Reggio Emilia designed in 1946 by the architect Enea Manfredini. The attention is focused on the historical and social facts of the project. The mains aspects described about the architecture are the volumetric approach, the studies of distribution and the material and constructive part. A focus has been done on the architect and his contribution to the development of the sacred architecture in Italy. The text is followed by original pictures and drawings and it is bound with illustrations of Italian and European magazines where the project has been published. The second chapter analyses the actual situation of the building, observing the aspects that made the area unused and unvalued. Are attached studies about the decline in vocations and texts made to observe deeper the actual religious situation in Italy. A description of the social context in Reggio Emilia with some statistics is attached. The text is followed by photographs made to describe the actual situation of the site. The last chapter, starting from what is described in the previous two, offers a solution of reuse of the building. There are some description made to define the future users and some texts made in order to describe the architectural choices. The project purpose itself like an experiment of revalue of an old architecture, adherent to the Modern movement with an huge attention to different scale: the urban one, the architectural one and the interior one. In the final part the attention is moved to the architectural graft, both in theoretical way and in the specific project. The text is followed by the posters of the project, diagrams, technical drawings, images and model’s pictures.

La storia narrata si divide in tre capitoli: passato, presente e futuro. Il primo descrive il Seminario Vescovile di Reggio Emilia progettato nel 1946 da Enea Manfredini. Sono narrate le vicende storiche e sociali che individuano il contesto e le motivazioni del progetto. Sono analizzate le caratteristiche volumetrico-tipologiche, distributive e architettoniche con cenni storici riguardanti il progettista e il suo contributo all’architettura sacra. Sono descritti i materiali e le tecniche costruttive del manufatto. Il testo è accompagnato da foto e disegni d’epoca ed è arricchito da scansioni di riviste nazionali e internazionali di architettura in cui il progetto è stato pubblicato. Il secondo capitolo analizza la situazione quotidiana del manufatto, analizzando i motivi storico-culturali che hanno portato al suo sottoutilizzo. Sono contenuti studi e statistiche riguardanti il tema del calo delle vocazioni accompagnati da letture di testi per approfondire il tema della religiosità in Italia oggi. Segue una descrizione del contesto socio-culturale odierno a Reggio Emilia con statistiche riguardanti i fenomeni di cambiamento sociale e in particolare le nuove esigenze abitative. Il testo è accompagnato da una relazione fotografica che descrive la situazione e il degrado del manufatto. L’ultimo capitolo, presa visione del passato e del presente del Seminario, propone una soluzione di valorizzazione dell’edificio. Sono contenute descrizioni volte a definire la futura utenza del manufatto e testi che descrivono le scelte architettoniche intraprese. Il progetto si propone come esperimento di rivisitazione di un’architettura appartenente al Moderno con particolare attenzione a molteplici scale: quella urbana, quella architettonica e quella di allestimento degli spazi interni. Nella parte conclusiva viene trattato il tema dell’innesto architettonico, sia in generale sia nel particolare del progetto. A questo sono legati numerosi esempi e casi studio. Il testo è accompagnato dalle tavole di progetto, contenenti diagrammi funzionali e concettuali, disegni tecnici, immagini e fotografie di un plastico.
