This work presents the evaluation of volumetric and mechanical characteristics of asphalt mixtures produced with the use of different types of additives. These additives are made of fibers and polymers compound of three types: plastomers and synthetic microfibers, plastomers and cellulose microfibers and glass fibers, also a final compound made of cellulose and synthetic fibers filled with special paraffinic and elastomeric polymers. These additives are inserted directly into the mixer so it is not required a modification of bitumen. The characteristics of each mixture are compared with other two mixtures, the first with the same bitumen used in the previous three mixtures but without additives and the second by using modified bitumen. The first two modified mixtures are made with a single percentage of additive, 0.5%, while the other mixture was accomplished with a content of 0.5% and 0.8% of additive. All mixtures are compacted with the procedure “roller running on vertical sliding plates” according to UNI EN 12697-33 and after that were cut in cylindrical specimens on which the laboratory test were made. The stiffness modulus were evaluated with the four point bending test. The test has been carried out at temperature -5, 5, 10, 15, 20°C and at frequencies of 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 15 Hz. Data analysis is made possible through the construction of master curves for each mixture. It has been evaluated also the fatigue strength with four point bending test under strain control. Laboratory tests show that the modification with these compounds increase stiffness modulus and carry a significant extension of fatigue life.
