The present work aims to investigate what is the current state of the application of Lean Six Sigma techniques within the Exploration & Production area of the Oil & Gas sector, in order to formulate a structured framework that facilitates the initialization and conduction of a Continuous Improvement programme based on such methodology for the operating companies. The theoretical basis of the work will be laid by presenting history and characteristics of the Oil & Gas sector and in particular of the Exploration & Production area, by identifying problems and opportunities. A brief introduction on the most recent Continuous Improvement methodologies, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and the latest Lean Six Sigma, will follow. The systematic literature review of the application of aforementioned methodologies within the Exploration & Production area will be presented, with the exposition of the search and selection criteria. In particular, the goal will be the presentation of the state of the art through the identification of projects areas, benefits gained, tools used, enabling and impeding factors. The research methodology consists of the preparation of a questionnaire submitted to Exploration & Production experts holding a Lean Six Sigma certification, in order to supplement the systematic literature review with most recent information. The answers collected, combined with the findings from the literature, have allowed the construction of a maturity model showing the developmental stages and the current positioning of the operating companies towards the Continuous Improvement methodologies. Finally, a structured framework that helps operating companies to initiate and conduct properly a Continuous Improvement programme based on Lean Six Sigma will be formulated. This will result in filling the gaps that characterize their project approach as it emerged from the analysis of the case studies reported in literature and from the data collected through the questionnaire.

Abstract
This will result in filling the gaps that characterize their project approach as it emerged from the analysis of the case studies reported in literature and from the data collected through the questionnaire.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
