This study grounds on the resource orchestration theory to unravel the relationship between different supplier PMS uses (i.e. diagnostic, interactive, dynamic tension) and supplier’s operational (quality and delivery), innovation and cost performance. Moreover, the mediating effect of soft relationship capabilities, such as mutual trust and commitment, has been investigated in the link between supplier PMS use and supplier’s performance. This is a survey-based research, focusing on the buyer-supplier dyad as the unit of analysis. The theoretical research framework has been tested on a final sample of 117 matched buyer-supplier responses. Buyer companies (manufacturing firms with more than 100 employees) were first addressed and asked to provide the contact of a supplier, to which a specular questionnaire version was sent. The aim was to achieve more robust measures for various constructs, including both parties’ point of views. The main findings of our study are as follows: (1) dynamic tension positively influence each dimension of supplier’s performance; (2) dynamic tension improves relationship trust and commitment; (3) relationship capabilities positively affect supplier’s performance; (4) relationship commitment is resulted to mediate the relationship between dynamic tension and operational and innovation performances. In conclusion, our research provides different innovative insights. First, resource orchestration theory explains suitably improvements in supplier’s performance through the supplier PMS use as an orchestration tool. Secondly, confirmatory analysis shows that the paradigm of diagnostic, interactive and dynamic tension use fits the supplier PMS context and the dynamic tension proves to have the best impact on relationship soft capabilities and supplier’s performance. Thirdly, we implemented a dyadic survey, thus providing theory-testing results grounded on a more robust and innovative methodology.

Abstract
Thirdly, we implemented a dyadic survey, thus providing theory-testing results grounded on a more robust and innovative methodology.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
