La razionalizzazione della supply base : il caso Boldrocchi S.r.l.

The present thesis aims to analyse in depth the topic of “Supply base reduction”, by investigating how main concepts present in scientific literature can be applied in a real business case. The thesis eventually represents the author’s effort to integrate the concepts emerged from the literature review, with the activities and strategies adopted by a company when leading a “Supply Base Reduction” project. The suitable occasion to embody the two different perspectives within the thesis has occurred during an internship period in Boldrocchi, an engineering company operating in industrial plants management. Due to the financial crisis, Boldrocchi has decided to undertake a project aimed at increasing its cost efficiency by reducing the overall spending. In the first chapter, I shortly describe the industry environment where Boldrocchi operates, highlighting the value for the company to enrol a supply base reduction project. In the second chapter, literature on Supply Base Reduction is reported, with a specific focus on the achievable benefits and on the tools to be used during the implementation. Instead, the third chapter is focused on the methodology adopted and in particular on the internship experience along with related goals. In the fourth chapter, the business case is described in depth: first of all a brief introduction of the company Boldrocchi is provided, with a specific attention to the relevance of the Purchase Department; second the project phases and tools applied are described. Third, main critical issues are highlighted with a comparison between the AS-IS and TO-BE situation. In the last part of the thesis, I try to quantify the achieved results as costs reduction and performance increase by means of two examples of purchasing categories. Main barriers faced and long-term benefits have been highlighted as well.

Il presente lavoro di tesi si propone di analizzare a fondo il tema della “Razionalizzazione della Supply Base”, andando a confrontare le principali teorie descritte nella letteratura con l’applicazione ad un caso aziendale. Il filo conduttore dell’elaborato è rappresentato dal tentativo di integrare i concetti emersi dalla literature review, con le attività e le strategie effettivamente implementate in un caso reale di implementazione di un progetto di Supply Base Reduction (SBR). L’occasione per integrare le due prospettive è stata uno stage intrapreso presso l’azienda Boldrocchi, azienda operante nel campo dell’impiantistica. A seguito della crisi finanziaria, e del conseguente mutamento del contesto esterno, l’impresa ha deciso di intraprendere una serie di azioni volte alla riduzione dei costi, in particolar modo dello spending Nel primo capitolo viene brevemente descritto il contesto attuale in cui opera Boldrocchi e le ragioni dell’importanza di un’iniziativa di razionalizzazione delle supply base. Nel secondo capitolo vengono introdotti i concetti generali della Supply Base Reduction, con particolare riferimento ai sotto-argomenti di cui si compone, ai benefici ottenibili, ed agli strumenti applicabili nella sua implementazione. Il terzo capitolo verte invece sulla metodologia adottata, ed in particolare sull’esperienza di stage e sui relativi obiettivi. Nel quarto capitolo viene approfondito il caso di studio: dapprima viene presentata una breve introduzione dell’azienda, con un focus specifico sulla rilevanza della funzione acquisti; in seguito vengono descritte tutte le fasi del progetto ed i relativi strumenti utilizzati. In particolare sono evidenziate, tramite un confronto, le criticità della situazione AS-IS ed i correttivi proposti nella situazione TO-BE. Nell’ultima parte della tesi vengono presentati i risultati raggiunti in termini di riduzione di costi e miglioramento delle performance, portando come esempio due categorie merceologiche, ma anche i principali ostacoli affrontati ed i benefici ottenibili nel lungo periodo.
