In the world of prosthesis, there are many devices and products that are used in order to improve the quality of life of physically disabled people. One of the common examples is the transtibial prosthetic leg. However, the main focus of these products is functionality. In contrast, the aesthetic capability has generally been below average or unaffordable. This has an impact on how the user associates with the prosthetic leg. Nevertheless, in the past 30 years, technological advancements in the field of Additive Manufacturing have allowed this gap to narrow. In the past decade, the need to customise products has become achievable in the consumer market. This trend has allowed products that are intrinsically static to become dynamic. This is a crucial element for prosthesis because the devices have to be mentally and emotionally accepted by the user. Personalisation capabilities in products frequently play a big role in present day product design. Utilising Fused Filament Fabrication technology, a mechanism will be designed for this reason. This mechanism will be the dynamic element that allows the patient to transform their legs from cold, mechanical parts into animated, organic-looking extensions of their body. The mechanism will be able to modularly adapt to the present system of transtibial prosthetic legs. This will provide greater flexibility and the freedom to express through design.

Abstract
This will provide greater flexibility and the freedom to express through design.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
