This thesis aims to develop a method for estimating the poses of randomly distributed objects in a container, starting from their 3D shape acquisition. This problem represent the first task of a bin picking dedicated system, in which a robot is meant to grasp an object from a bin to put it in a second one. For the task of object 3D shape acquisition, it is proposed to adopt structured light camera Orbbec Astra S. A metrological qualification for this instruments is performed to predict its behavior when applying it to the case study, but also in response to the increasing interest of the research for this type of low-cost systems, widely distributed, and supported by a wide range of software. For the object recognition phase we study algorithms available within a collection of open source libraries; It is then proposed a new metric for drescriptors matching, that aims to cope with the specific problematics of 3D shape acquisition. Performances of object recognition methods are evaluated and so for the developed metric. The results obtained with the chosen instrument are then compared over other technologies, in presence of a characteristic bin-picking setup.

Abstract
The results obtained with the chosen instrument are then compared over other technologies, in presence of a characteristic bin-picking setup.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
