The Museum Island, originally built between 1830 and 1930 thanks to far-sighted ambitions of the neoclassical German architect K.F.Schinkel and registered in the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1999, has recently become the subject of a majestic project of urban regeneration which should be completed in 2025. Following to bombings during World War II and the subsequent period of Soviet control between 1945 and 1990, the island has undergone several changes. Considering this great process of urban and architectural reorganization, which began in the first years of the 21st century, it seems clear the will of the City of Berlin to bring the island and its buildings to the spatial composition that is assumed in 19th century. In addition to the restructuring and internal reorganization of existing museums, several new buildings had been put up - contemporary and non – all characterised by being an expression of the form and position of past buildings. Striking examples of this true-to-the-original replica reconstruction process, true-to-the-original replica, are the Stately Schloss, which will become the cultural centre Humboldt Forum and the Bauakademie which will host its own museum about K.F.Schinkel beyond the Spreekanal. The DOM is founded starting exactly from this rich and complex context. A museum about the history of the place, especially that surrounding the Humboldt Forum and which hosted the largest number of reconfigurations. In accordance with the project guidelines established by the City, the museum is meant to pose itself as a conscious part of the rich program that has characterized this space under the enlightened rule of the Hohenzollern dynasty.

Abstract
In accordance with the project guidelines established by the City, the museum is meant to pose itself as a conscious part of the rich program that has characterized this space under the enlightened rule of the Hohenzollern dynasty.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
