Il suono del silenzio

This project has its roots in the will of giving back value to the utopic and profound concept of "silence". Starting from the definition itself of "silence", it has been analyzed the process with which men perceive sounds and noises, in so defining the minimal sound vibration that can be sensed: the beat of our hearts. It has then been thought a place where to live the experience of silence through the listening of the heart's beat. I have taken in consideration a study completed by three scholars of the University of Michigan and University of Washington that, after having studied the cardiac arrhythmia that affected the composer Ludwig Van Beethoven, have argued that this medical condition was largely influenced by his deafness (perpetual silence) and that it had strong effects on many of the melodic variations present in his works, written in the tonality of Bb. Sound, rhythm, colour and shape are part of the elements that characterize a space completely reflecting in its external part (utopia of silence), while internally it transforms itself to a formal level in order to optimally follow the diffusion of sound waves, emitted reproducing the heart beat of the users during the performance that they wrote and acted themselves. Resonating chambers play in the Bb scale the "Arrhythmic Sonata for Hearts", composed by measuring, transforming into sound and reproducing the heart beat of seven different people simultaneously, in such a way that permitted the creation of an outright melody, always different, but in no way random.

Il progetto nasce dalla volontà di ridare valore al concetto profondo di silenzio. Partendo dalla definizione stessa del silenzio è stato analizzato il processo con cui l’uomo percepisce suoni e rumori, arrivando così a definire la vibrazione sonora minima che potrebbe essere recepita: la frequenza cardiaca, il battito del nostro cuore. E’ stato pensato quindi un luogo dove vivere l’esperienza del silenzio attraverso l’ascolto del battito cardiaco. Suono, ritmo, colore, forma, sono alcuni degli elementi che caratterizzano uno spazio completamente riflettente e dalla forma organica nella sua parte esterna, che internamente si trasforma per seguire in modo ottimale la diffusione delle onde sonore che riproducono le frequenze cardiache degli utenti durante la performance di cui loro stessi sono autori e protagonisti. Casse di risonanza intonano in scala di Sib la “sonata aritmica per cuori in Sib”, composta rilevando, trasformando in suono e riproducendo il battito del cuore di sette persone contemporaneamente, in modo da creare una vera e propria composizione, sempre diversa, ma in nessun modo casuale.
