Long live the objects. Design per produrre cambiamento

The project that I created, and whose name is Long Live The Objects, aims to create a new sensitivity towards sustainable design, the objective of which is to avoid premature disposal of objects, by creating an emotional connection between people and these ones; bond that can be formed through the appropriation, that is the customization of such objects by the users. The result is a longer life of the products, so that they will come to the end of life, but having lived a long time and fully with their owners. This type of design, synthesized in the form of practical guidelines in a poster, can be found spread through the instrument of the online platform; platform that is enabling for users, thanks to its many features and access methods. In the first chapter, through the words of a well-known designer, I wanted to reflect on the need for a redefinition of the design objectives. In the second, in particular I explored the themes of ethics and social and environmental responsabilities in the design. In the third chapter I reasoned on how to produce a change and I have identified and the proper tools for me. In the fourth, I introduced the topic of Wabi Sabi culture, then Wabi Sabi applied to the design. This theme will provide me with the principles and tools to achieve the goal of my thesis. In the fifth chapter finally I present the first part of my idea: "Long life to objects", a manifesto for a paradigm shift in the design, made up of design guidelines designed to apply to multiple options. In the sixth illustrate the concept of the project that follows, which is the online platform responsible for the spreading of LLTO message, describing manner and appearance, objectives and targets. In the seventh chapter show you my personal interpretation approach, with a furniture collection called Legami; I clarify what is the concept behind it, the development of the particular material, the style that characterizes it; then I present each product of the Collection and the ID cards that accompany them. In the eight chapter I simulated the realization of the collection Legami, as presented in the manner of use of the platform, from design to research the supply chain for the recovery of the material, the selection of a craftsman concerned, to the realization of the particular panel, the construction of the two example objects, to then proceed with the testing with users, necessary to validate my proposal. In the ninth draw conclusions and launch proposals for future development scenarios, with other materials for investigation.

Il progetto che ho ideato, e che ha nome Long Live The Objects, mira a creare una sensibilità nuova verso una progettazione sostenibile, il cui obiettivo è quello di evitare la dismissione prematura degli oggetti, tramite la creazione di un legame emotivo tra le persone e questi ultimi; legame che si può formare tramite l’appropriazione, ossia la personalizzazione di tali oggetti da parte degli utenti. Il risultato è un allungamento della vita dei prodotti, che giungeranno sì al fine vita, ma dopo aver vissuto a lungo e pienamente con i loro possessori. Questo tipo di progettazione, sintetizzata sotto forma di concrete linee guida all’interno di un manifesto, può trovare diffusione grazie allo strumento della piattaforma online; piattaforma che è abilitante per gli utenti, grazie alle molteplici funzioni e modalità di accesso. Nel primo capitolo, grazie alle parole di un noto designer, ho voluto riflettere sulla necessità di una ridefinizione degli obiettivi di design. Nel secondo, in particolare ho esplorato i temi della responsabilità etica e sociale e di quella ambientale nell’ambito della progettazione. Nel terzo capitolo ho ragionato sulle modalità per produrre un cambiamento e e ho identificato gli strumenti adatti al mio caso. Nel quarto, ho introdotto il tema della cultura Wabi Sabi, per poi ragionare sul Wabi Sabi applicato al design. Tale tematica mi fornirà principi e strumenti per raggiungere l’obiettivo della mia tesi. Nel quinto capitolo presento finalmente la prima parte della mia idea: “Lunga vita agli oggetti”, un manifesto per un cambio di paradigma nella progettazione, costituito da linee guida progettuali pensate per applicarsi a molteplici opzioni. Nel sesto illustro Il concept del progetto che ne segue, ovvero la piattaforma online incaricata di diffodere il messaggio LLTO, descrivendone modalità ed aspetto, obiettivi e target. Nel settimo capitolo mostro la mia personale interpretazione dell’approccio, con una Collezione di arredi chiamata Legami; chiarisco qual è il concept che vi sta dietro, lo sviluppo del particolare materiale, lo stile che la caratterizza; presento poi le schede di ogni prodotto afferente alla Collezione Legami e le carte d’identità che li accompagnano. Nell’ottavo ho simulato concretamete la realizzazione della collezione Legami, così come presentato nelle modalità di utilizzo della piattaforma, dalla progettazione, alla ricerca della filiera per il recupero del materiale, alla selezione di un artigiano interessato, alla realizzazione del pannello particolare, alla costruzione dei due oggetti esempio, per poi procedere con la sperimentazione con gli utenti, necessaria per validare la mia proposta. Nel nono traggo le conclusioni e lancio proposte di scenari futuri di sviluppo, con altri materiali da indagare.
