Rethink Premana between past and future

RETHINK PREMANA BETWEEN PAST AND FUTURE is a project that started between the university benches, and grown with the partecipation in the homonym competition, in which the theme was the rifurbishment of emblematic building for the town of Premana. Premana is a little reality in the city of Lecco, situated in the Valvarrone, that presents different features from which can be found in geographically similar village: her successful production of scissors and knives, due to her secular history linked to the iron, let her stay live and vital, a point of reference for all the mountain towns. The purpose of this thesis has been to revamp, also in a tourist key, Premana, creating paths inside of the town which could invigorate and make more concreate functions considered emblematic by the people. Contemplate the past and the future is in the center of all the processes: all starts addressing to the current situation in order to reenvision urban spaces and to put new functions in abandoned buildings, eventually pointing to the future with elements that reconcieve the image of Premana. Cornerstones of the project surely are: -- the buildings of the barns, object of refurbishment linked to the new function of diffused hotel; -- the new door of Premana, that define the new landmark as weel as the representing the entrance of the town; -- the glass, that is used to materialize the interventions of addiction to the existing buildings and with which we try to emphatize the built with his transparency and his light, as well as representing an important step to the future with the strict connection that has been having since last years with the structural theme. The result is an intervention thet presents many facets in many areas of interest, from the refurbishment theme to the innovation one, from the urban structure to structural and energetic detail relative to tecnologies that head to the future.

RETHINK PREMANA BETWEEN PAST AND FUTURE è un progetto nato tra i banchi di università e cresciuto grazie alla partecipazione al concorso omonimo, il cui tema era appunto il recupero di elementi storicamente emblematici per il paese di Premana. Premana è una piccola realtà nella provincia di Lecco, situata nella Valvarrone, che presenta caratteristiche molto differenti da quelle che si possono trovare in paesi simili dal punto di vista della posizione geografica: la sua celebre produzione di forbici e coltelli, dovuta alla sua secolare storia legata al ferro, le ha permesso di rimanere viva e vitale, un punto di riferimento per tutti i centri montani. Lo scopo di questa tesi è stato quello di rilanciare, anche in chiave turistica, Premana, creando percorsi all’interno del paese che rinvigorissero e rendessero più concrete funzioni emblematiche per la popolazione. Considerare il passato e il futuro è il centro di tutti i processi: si inizia rivolgendosi all’attuale stato di fatto, in modo da poter riconcepire spazi urbani e rifunzionalizzare edifici abbandonati, puntando infine al futuro con elementi che ridefiniscono l’immagine di Premana. Cardini del progetto sono sicuramente: -- Gli edifici delle stalle, oggetto di recupero principale legate alla nuova funzione di hotel diffuso; -- La nuova porta di Premana, che oltre a rappresentare l’ingresso al paese ridefinisce il landmark; -- Il vetro, con il quale si realizzano gli interventi di aggiunta ai volumi esistenti e con il quale si cerca di caratterizzare l’edificato con la sua trasparenza e la luce, oltre che rappresentare un importante passo nel futuro per lo stretto legame che solo da poco sta avendo con il tema strutturale. Il risultato è un intervento che presenta sfaccettature in più ambiti di interesse, dal tema del recupero a quello dell’innovazione, dall’aspetto urbanistico fino al dettaglio strutturale ed energetico relativo a tecnologie che puntano al futuro.
