Affordable housing for low-income class in Kabul. Population growth, policy and design provisions

The theme of affordable housing for low income class in Kabul is based on several issues. Namely, understanding better about the housing types in Kabul and choosing a housing implementation method which can be adopted with Afghan context of living and suitable as a housing solution for a long term. Following, main factors which caused housing shortage such as demography increase (population growth) due to influx of refugees from rural-urban migration and neighboring countries to Kabul city; national economy and income categories of people, and the housing history and its relation to recent scenario were also analyzed in the preliminary phase of this thesis. Afterwards, finding a better housing finance and gathering housing actors for cooperation to provide housing solution and plan for land management, distribution and affordable housing supply at scale for low income class in Kabul were studied and they are identified. At final stage, before planning and designing the housing scheme, an in-depth research through questionnaire were carried out to find out the housing needs and challenges of low income people which could be facilitated to discover an appropriate solution (availability of vacant plots as potential for building apartment blocks) for the provision of housing scheme.
