Over the past decade, Turkey has been a major stage for economic shifts and transformations. Regardless of political and economic challenges it has passed through, according to solid indicators now it is possible to claim that, it provides indeed many opportunities and attracting many investors. However, there is still room for growth potential that attracts new investment inflows. Turkey has become one of the most attractive places in the world for investment. The attractiveness of Turkey is supported mainly by its young and skilled workforce. One of the sectors that promises future growth for FDI opportunities in Turkey is energy sector. According to the 2013 Attractiveness of Turkey report of Ernst & Young, the second top sector that is driving growth in the following two years in Turkey is Energy and Heavy Industry with a rate of 20.6% (Ernst & Young, 2013). The high interest in energy sector in Turkey is seen in the past two years, which is still ongoing when the increasing amount of investment on renewable and nuclear energy is considered. In this study, key point of interest will be opportunities of FDI in energy industry of Turkey, focusing mainly on Turkey’s current energy profile and future energy strategy. The arguements are supported with the legislations issued in the recent years and the project proposals in the next 10 years horizon, fulfilling the major targets of 2023. The impact of EU Accession Process of Turkey is also discussed from the perspective of the effects on the energy industry growth. Overall, the key points contributing to the decision of investing in Turkey are covered critically throughout the report.
Nell’ultimo decennio la Turchia è stata lo scenario di enormi trasformazioni e spostamenti economici. Senza tenere conto delle difficoltà politiche ed economiche che la Nazione ha dovuto sopportare, gli indicatori dimostrano che essa presenta, ad oggi, numerose opportunità e attira sempre più investitori. Nonostante questa fioritura c’è ancora un margine di crescita potenziale molto elevato che attira un sempre maggiore numero di investimenti. La Turchia è diventata, a livello globale, uno dei luoghi che più attirano investitori. La sua attrattiva maggiore è composta perlopiù da una forza lavoro giovane e preparata. Uno dei settori che prevede una grande crescita nell’IDE in Turchia è quello energetico. Come sostenuto nel report del 2013 “Attractivness of Turkey” di Ernst & Young, il secondo settore responsabile della crescita dei due anni successivi è proprio quello di Energia e Industria pesante con una crescita del 20,6% (Ernst & Young, 2013). L’aumento di interesse per il settore energetico è individuabile in Turchia già da due anni e resta tuttora molto forte e presenta, di conseguenza, un aumento degli investimenti su energie nucleare e rinnovabile. Oggetto di studio fondamentale, in questo elaborato, sarà la possibilità di IDE nell’industria energetica turca, con particolare attenzione sull’odierno profilo energetico e le strategie energetiche per il futuro. Questi temi vengono supportati dalla legislazione degli ultimi anni e un ampio progetto di innovazioni per i prossimi 10 anni, con l’obiettivo di raggiungere gli obiettivi preposti entro il 2023. L’impatto di un possibile processo di adesione all’UE da parte della Turchia viene inoltre analizzato da un punto di vista di crescita dell’industria energetica. Più in generale, tutti i punti chiave che riguardano la decisione di investimento in Turchia sono ampiamente dibattuti nel corso dell’elaborato.
