This paper presents a practical approach based on the finite State Machine Control Theory and the Four-Bar mechanism for developing a new pivot arm sorter integrated with the sorting or deviation system area, which located in the BHS (Baggage and Handling System) sector in the airport. The paper takes into consideration the mechanical design integrated with the control theory to fulfil the regulation and cost constrains. Robust design, which follows the mechanical consideration, is the aim of the product development phase and integrates with the performance of speed and acceleration planned to achieve, and to follow many scenarios of control respect to the plant limitations. The paper points to the different uses of the machine in point of control as a solo unit with on/off control command from the master PC of the plant or as an integrated component in the master program for all the plant, which increase the performance and the quantity of sorting cycles.
