China has the world’s largest aging population – 135 million people are over the age of 65.In traditional chinese values, there is no concept of the individual or “me” for the elderly.  Identity is firmly tied to family. Self-identity and self-worth are “realized” through contributing and caring for their family.  With younger generations of Chinese becoming more independent,traditional family values are changing.Younger generations want to seek more space and privacy from their parents.As a result, the elderly are forced to re-exam and re-define their own value and identify with the additional time they have. Some struggle through this journey of finding out what they like to do, How to spend their time doing, and where they can be of value.  Those who fail to find their new life focus are at high risk of getting depression and social isolation. Through my research,I found there are two ways to solve this issue,one is building new connections,another is keeping existing relationships.Here I'm interested in a relationship for seniors,it is called" Intergenerational friendship".It offer unique benefits for seniors and young.For older people, having younger friends can help them better connect to the broader culture.For younger people, having an older friend listen closely helps them feel heard and respected.  Finally, based on the analysis and research IN BLOOM is born.It is a sevice for urban seniors whom are plant lovers.It enables older adults to back to nature and enjoy the fun of planting in city.IN BLOOM is based on "Intergenerational connections",it would like a "bridge" between seniors and young people,bring them together based on mutually beneficial activities which promote greater understanding and respect between generations.By establishing this relationship to help develop and sustain health, happiness and social connections in later life.
