The idea of developing the theme of the recovery plan on the scholastic building trade was principally born from the actual demand of renewal of the current scholastic heritage. This patrimony has been neglected and left at the mercy of the events for many years and now it has been resumed with the decree D.P.C.M. of April 27, 2016 whose aim is to give a new light and force to a basic field for the development of Italian society. Considering the our will to offer a better school service to future generations and the our spirit of renewal, it is comprehensible our choice to work on the school PFP Valtellina of Sondrio. Valtellina Professional education pole is the corporation of the professional training of the district of Sondrio, that is supported by Lombardia region for the education to work in field as hospitality, catering, wellness, building and textile. The school was built since 1960 and has been subject to continuous volumetric extensions until 1990. They have been planned without giving homogeneity to the building that we see today that is a whole thing of uneven volume, as usually happens. This has been the starting point of the thesis that has been developed: to give back life to a relevant institution like a school, through an architectural project to satisfy the requirements of users, teachers and administrative staff, but also to make it a landmark for the city. The project is composed of three parts: the first has been the Knowledge of the current historic and urban analysis and the needs of users. This allowed tounderstand the real background of the facility and also its functional and distributive problems claimed by people that live there and that confront with it every day. Thank’s to these analysis it has been possible to solve the problems of the building PFP Valtellina adopting particular planning strategy. The second step has been the Planning to solve the above explained problems, it means the creation of a new area where now there is a football field unused by students, where it has been projected to locate the classrooms, considering the high request of enrollments to the expected school for the future years, and also the offices of administrative staff. The laboratories has been enlarged to give them more space, but they are still located in the existing and renovated area, while the great uneven of the structure was solved inside in the internal hallway and also outside on the external building with its covering. In relation to the internal hallway, as it can be seen in the next chapters, the corridors are like a labyrinth and sometimes it is necessary to use stairs or elevator to move from one room to another one, even if they are on the same floor; it is totally unacceptable considering the accessibility to a public place. In reference with the external covering, it re-marks the irregularity of the structure considering that there are plaster and stone covering of different origin. The aim is to show the school as an uniform building, as it should be, both by covering and also by the operations on the building plan. The main material used is the wood which is a historic material often used for the architectures of this Alpin area, together with the zinc, to give back again an original and contemporary appearance. The last step has been the Technology that makes our intervention not a simply architectural project beautiful to see but also to be able to answer to the energetic requirements, considering the heating system and the environmental necessities through the use of contemporary and innovative materials and technologies.
