Physiotherapy is a very delicate field of medicine, since it does not deal only with the biological aspect of the patient but also with the psychological one. The latter indeed has a significant influence on the rehabilitation process of the patient that has suffered a trauma, often invalidating the execution of some essential functions. In this thesis we focus on a particular part of the body: the shoulder, one of the most complex joint and muscle groups of the human body. After a shoulder surgery, the patient enters a stage of immobility which can vary depending on the circumstances and which can influence his/her psychological state, leading in some cases to high levels of stress and depression, as well as to physical pains that further exacerbate the situation. The field research has led to focus on innovative solutions and new technologies that pay special attention to the psychological component of the patient, with the objective of designing a system to facilitate his/her concentration and, at the same time, to relieve the stress of the physiotherapy treatment . The technology considered is the virtual reality that is lately gaining more and more space in the biomedical field with the development of new tools that interface with real fitness video games. This has has taken to the idea of integrating this technology with the technique of a sport that maximizes the movement of the shoulders, the paddling on the kayak, in order to create a simulator that encourages the patient, athlete or not, to concentrate, to be more motivated and active during the treatment of muscle recovery with the objective of reducing the amount of stress and increase the efficiency of the whole rehabilitation process.

Abstract
This has has taken to the idea of integrating this technology with the technique of a sport that maximizes the movement of the shoulders, the paddling on the kayak, in order to create a simulator that encourages the patient, athlete or not, to concentrate, to be more motivated and active during the treatment of muscle recovery with the objective of reducing the amount of stress and increase the efficiency of the whole rehabilitation process.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
