The velodrome Vigorelli was one of the most significant sports building in Milan for decades. It's undoubtedly a monument in hearts of the Milanese as well as the cyclists around the world. However, in order to keep up with the time, the velodrome needs to be reborn. What we’re doing now in this project, is to renovate the old building by respecting its monumentality, giving more possibilities to its evolutionary process. First, we keep the most important symbol, the wooden track as the primary element. Second, the central inner part was sank to the underground level to integrate more functions and emphasis its thick history. Third, cycling can also be allowed underground to make everyone in the velodrome have a direct eye contact to the cyclists. Last but not least, a hanging bridge is built to connect both sides, and it could also be a stage for shows and roof concerts. Our aim is to evoke people's memory of its past glories, and at the same time, use it and love it in their daily life.
