Entreolhar Park : the public realm as a new metropolitan centrality, catalyst of the old center regeneration in Sao Luis, Brazil

This work intent is to design a new metropolitan centrality, from urban strategy to landscape and architecture design capable of being the catalyst of Sao Luis’ old center regeneration, in Brazil. Hence, it studies the old centers' history in order to understand the current geography, morphology and the recent abandonment growth. The work also analyses the old center from a metropolitan to a local point of view, paying particular attention to the roles played by the public realm and the water on the urban processes and their key potential on regenerating the area. Furthermore, it presents a landscape proposal on the form a 12ha park in the Bacanga earth bank that surrounds the old center of Sao Luis. This proposal is complemented with the design of a new maritime terminal for passengers and a community center. The final result reflects the goal of elaborating a design that improves quality of life and reconnects the people, the water and the old center through the public realm.
