This thesis explores the nature of the relationship that fashion and architecture might share. It emphasizes on the cultural and social dimension of architecture and fashion and the way they affect the users in society over time. For centuries, architecture and fashion have been widely expressed as the shelter of the human body in different scales, reflecting personal, social and cultural identity concerning time and space. Though references to each other in a theoretical and philosophical aspect have been issued, there are few instances of them coming to light. The concept of this lateral symbiosis, the extent of their influence on each other and their overlapping in artistic, cultural and social movements, design process and inspiration is the concentration of this essay. On the extent of this theoretical analysis is connected the philosophy of the fold. Albeit its wide use as a fashion designs technique, it has been an important inspiration and source of study for contemporary architects. The translation of the fold from fashion to architectural design is introduced in this thesis through the Japanese art of origami and their territorial, architectural and ‘fashionable’ explanation.
