The year 2015 has definitely ratified that renewable sources are the sources of the future and their use is expected to grow more and more in the next decades. Africa is the continent that had in percentage the highest increase in investments with respect to 2008, indeed with its 20 billion euros spent it increased of 10 times its investments (only 2 billion were spent in 2008). More in general African GDP is in rapid growth, in 2015 the Sub Saharan region was second only to fast developing Asian players while North Africa is third at worldwide level. Considering that Africa is the continent with lowest electricity access in the world and in the specific that Sub Saharan Africa contains nearly half of world population still without access many opportunities are arising in the area for energy production. As energy is not only capable to improve quality of life but it can spur business opportunities and be a factor of growth for the whole economy the governments of Africa are highly propene to welcome foreign investments. Not all countries though are in health: some are in war, some other have just passed through decades of violent dictatorship and have an unstable government, more in general economic disparity is relevant among the countries of the continent. My aim is to understand where and how it is profitable to invest, which are the most interesting countries and by contrast in which is it still too risky. In order to do so I have given an evaluation to each country considering the market, the political context, the regulatory framework and the available renewable resources to produce energy. Overall a portrait of Africa is built with indications regarding where, how, what and why to invest. My aims are to point out how to help those populations in highest difficulty and how to achieve the “Sustainable energy for all” initiative (Universal access by 2030). Eventually referring to renewable sources I am willing to represent a strenuous defense of the natural wonders of Africa.
