Nowadays payment systems are undergoing several transformations. The appearance of new digital technology, the increasing diffusion of smartphones and the need to reduce the costs related to cash are facing banks to review their business models. Hence the Mobile Proximity Payment service that involves smartphones as alternative means to payment cards in situations in which storekeeper and customers are nearby. Near Field Communication (NFC) as the proximity communication technology for mass applications, tokenization for safety and simplicity in the user experience are the mainstays of Mobile Proximity Payment. The final output of this thesis is a model that estimates the number of users, revenues and costs associated to each NFC solution within bank ecosystem. The objective is to support the top management of a bank in taking strategic decisions that impact on the business model. Thanks to the collaboration with the Mobile Payment & Commerce Observatory, the main players of the chain were involved to obtain data and the model validated with three Italian banks.

Abstract
Thanks to the collaboration with the Mobile Payment & Commerce Observatory, the main players of the chain were involved to obtain data and the model validated with three Italian banks.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
