The recent international crisis led to a growing mismatch between credit demand and supply, worsening the average payment terms in the country. This environment favored the launch of many working capital solutions with the goal of financing supply chains. The aim of this work is to assess the credit card solution costs, benefits and potentialities within the Italian Supply Chain Finance contest. As a result of a deep research it has been noticed that there is a lack of literature analysis regarding this content. The reason stands in the nature of the credit card for Business To Business transactions: it is extremely recent and innovative. Thanks to an internship among the only player operating in Italy with this SCF solution, American Express, and an effective collaboration with the SCF Observatory of Politecnico di Milano, we managed to retrieve all the data and background necessary to develop a quantitative cost and benefit model. This model has a dual nature: on one side it was built with a strong commercial orientation, as an useful tool for negotiations and proposal assessments. On the other side it was slightly modified in order to be adapted for academic or research purposes: it has been carried out a simulation with a remarkable sample of Italian companies with the goal to study the impact of the credit card solution on several industries characterized by different parameters. Furthermore, in order to fill the gap present in the recent literature, a qualitative comparison has been carried out, highlighting analogies and differences of the credit card solution with two important SCF methods: Traditional and Reverse Factoring.
