The high value and elevated build time of SLM produced parts makes a complete and effective monitoring and control on the process an important requirement for the new systems. Thus, the study of strategies aimed at detecting production defects and to a real-time correction represents a major necessity in the field. In this thesis work, the application and analysis of corrective strategies such as layer remelting and powder preheating were performed on SLM machines. The effectiveness of correction strategies was evaluated by means of the analysis of density, surface roughness, geometrical error and micro-hardness of the 18Ni300 maraging steel produced specimens. Regarding the process monitoring aspect, optical modeling and application of a coaxial monitoring system were performed, with multiple sensors, in order to detect defects within the process. The architecture of the module consists in a photodiode for monitoring the laser back-reflection, and cameras with target on visible and near infrared wavelengths.

Abstract
The architecture of the module consists in a photodiode for monitoring the laser back-reflection, and cameras with target on visible and near infrared wavelengths.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
