Estimate duration at completion in projects with a critical-activity based method

Nowadays, there are again many difficulties to respect budget and, in particular, time constraints in project realization, although having a high amount of methods and techniques belonging to project management; between all these methodologies, introduced to try to increase the precision of the estimates, one method stands out for its simplicity and efficacy: Earned Duration Management (EDM). Based on this techniques, it is introduced a new aspect of innovation: apply this EDM method to only critical activities, in order to better improve the accuracy of the estimates. In order to verify and study the innovation brought by this work, a series of four projects are analysed: this allows to have several scenarios to test the new method, being sure that it could work not only under specific conditions.

Ad oggi si ha ancora molta difficoltà a rispettare i vincoli di budget, ma soprattutto di tempo, nella realizzazione dei progetti, nonostante la varietà di metodi presente sul panorama del project management; tra le varie metodologie che sono state introdotte per provare ad aumentare la precisione delle stime, un metodo spicca per semplicità ed efficacia: Earned Duration Management (EDM). Basandosi su questa tecnica, si è provato ad introdurre un nuovo aspetto di innovazione: applicare questo metodo EDM alle sole attività critiche, per poter migliorare l’accuratezza delle stime. Per poter valutare e verificare l’innovazione portata da questo lavoro, una serie di quattro differenti progetti è stata analizzata: questo permette di avere diversi scenari per testare questo nuovo metodo, essendo sicuri che potrebbe funzionare non solo sotto specifiche condizioni.
