Materials are the most important elements of architecture in terms of creating design ideas. In order to provide better atmospheres for human beings, knowing materials is very important. As well as the knowledge of materials, understanding how an interior environment is perceived makes material and design more effective; “fact is fact, but perception is reality”. Wood, which is one of the most important materials for architecture and interior design from ancient ages to the modern times, will be investigated in terms of how it is perceived in indoor environments. The analysis and discussion of relevant surveys and tests and the comparison of wood with other materials aim to prove that the use of the wood material in interior environments is beneficial for human wellbeing. Firstly, wood is examined in living and working environments in order to understand how the perception of wood affects the human senses and the activities of humans. Secondly, as being both a living and working environment — and moreover, where wellness plays a primary role — healthcare centers are examined as case studies for understanding wood’s influence on wellbeing. Enabling benefits for human mental and physical wellness is proved by discussions of tests, questionnaires and case studies. By examining human wellbeing, nature and its comforting sense, wood material is determined to be a beneficial material for human wellness and should be used in healthcare environments. In addition to exploring its health benefits, the correct use of wood material to create a beneficial atmosphere is identified and guidelines are offered for its implementation.

Abstract
In addition to exploring its health benefits, the correct use of wood material to create a beneficial atmosphere is identified and guidelines are offered for its implementation.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
