The research aims to explore the connections and intertwining exchanges between the conceptual, programmatic and spatial transformations that are being undertaken by contemporary cultural institutions and the experimentation with new strategies, practices and tools for the culture-led reactivation of built heritage. Within the framework of the complex dynamics characterizing the Creative City, the mutual exchanges between the occupant and the occupied seem to trigger new dialogues and retrofeedings. On the one hand, the ongoing upgrade to the mission, the strategies, the instruments and the spaces of contemporary museums, libraries and archives is stimulating the implementation of new approaches to the (re)occupation of existing buildings. On the other hand, the experimentation taking place on the emergent reactivation opportunities for the built historical heritage – taking advantage of their tangible and intangible features through the exploration of innovative forms of balancing preservation and transformation issues – is also triggering further possibilities in the functioning and developing of cultural facilities, thence conforming a complex panorama of constant exchange between the cultural institution, the historical building, the city and its citizens. This reflection builds on the critical reading of some paradigmatic case studies, which highlight new opportunities for the preservation, transformation and valorisation of built heritage.
Heritage in motion. Envisioning new processes and practices on built heritage reactivation
2015/2016
Abstract
This reflection builds on the critical reading of some paradigmatic case studies, which highlight new opportunities for the preservation, transformation and valorisation of built heritage.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
