There is a great sense of endangerment when we talk about the Indian hand-loom industry and Varanasi is one such case. The Varanasi hand loom weavers are facing a serious threat from fake ‘Banarasi’ products mass produced in different parts. Also considering the remunerations involved in the hand-loom business and the current state and living conditions the problem need to be addressed on a emergency basis. This thesis looks deep into the ongoing plight of the situation and through studying different aspects which directly or indirectly affects the weavers and their family. The goal is to build a community based system amongst the weavers , in which a holistic system of survival could be created incorporating new and improved technologies, less dependence on the market and a self sustained community. In order to explore the cost effectiveness and psychological impact of the architecture, a detailed connective investigation on Materiality has been carried out as Architecture and materials are intrinsically intertwined. The matter from which built form is made serves as the medium with which architects work. The understanding of the technical components is matched by the sensorial effects. The balance between these elements creates the vocabulary of understanding and wielding material. The final proposal of this thesis considers and corresponds to urban planning issues and complexity of the existing context.

Abstract
The final proposal of this thesis considers and corresponds to urban planning issues and complexity of the existing context.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
