The project of transformation for the EX PIAZZA D’ARMI in Baggio, Milano is composed by a masterplan of a new residential neighbourhood. The structure of the master plan is based on a linear park that functions as it’s central spine. The form of the park is one in which the green enters the built and the built enters the park, breaking it into smaller pieces all connected and fluent, each with a possibility of its own articulation. The park is oriented on a north-south axes where at the southern side of the project’s area, at the meeting point with Via Inganni, an existing strong urban axes brings to the San Cristoforo railway station and ex - railway upload plant on the Naviglio Grande northern bank. On the north side of the linear park begins Via San Giusto that leads to the sports center of San Siro with the important and widely known soccer stadium “Giuseppe Meazza”. On the two sides of the park are the residential clusters, each organised around a semi public green space. The residential buildings are of two groups - linear blocks of social housing with various types of apartments and low rise private family houses in five different typologies each with its own private garden. On the center of the park (the center of the neighbourhood) 3 big and important public buildings (an indoor sports center with a swimming pool, a school and a public library). That very center is also a point of intersection between the linear park and a green Boulevard that leads towards an important park nearby in the west of the project’s area - Parco delle Cave. In this master’s thesis project, besides the planning of the masterplan, one of the residential clusters are architectonically designed and one of the residential linear blocks is brought to the detail.
Il progetto di intervento di trasformazione per la EX PIAZZA D'ARMI DI BAGGIO, MILANO consiste di un masterplan di un nuovo quartiere residenziale. L'impianto si basa su una spina centrale a forma di parco lineare che alterna porzioni dell'essi ai lati. Il parco e posto sull'asse nord-sud e continua un asse esistente a sud dell'area del progetto - quello della Via Inganni che porta a sud alla stazione e scalo ferroviario di San Cristoforo sulla riva del Naviglio Grande, all-‘estremo nord, il parco si collega con la via San Giusto che porta al centro sportivo di San Siro con l'Importantissimo stadio. Nei lati del parco si sviluppano dei cluster residenziali ognuno organizzato attorno a uno spazio verde suo a carattere semi-pubblico. Gli edifici residenziali sono divisi in due gruppi - edifici in linea per il housing sociale e case unifamiliari di cinque diverse tipologie con i loro giardini privati. Al centro del parco lineare tre volumi grandi di funzione pubblica (centro sportivo con la piscina, scuola e una biblioteca) sono posti all'incrocio tra il parco lineare e un viale alberato che porta a ovest verso il vicino Parco delle Cave. Nel progetto di tesi, oltre alla progettazione del masterplan, va approfondito al livello della progettazione architettonica uno dei cluster residenziali e uno degli edifici in linea va portato al dettaglio.
