Abstract
The world that young adults enter when they finally conquer their often hard-earned degrees is a fast-changing, globalised and very crowded one. The radical innovation of ICTs and technological progress created the infrastructure for a new global flexible capitalism that changed forever the way we work, behave and think our ourselves. Researchers like Bauman, Sennett, Beck have observed modern identities and tried to grasp their unique features. One of the most predominant is certainly the focus on ‘individuality’. For the fist time in human development people conceive themselves as unique beings, different from one another and hard to put in common categories. However, the endeavour of knowing that uniqueness is not easy. Fluid identities (in Zygmunt Bauman’s words) are defined by a continuous series of choices, between alternatives that are progressively more numerous and complex. One of these first defining choices happens at the end of Upper Secondary Education. Students are called to decide weather to go further with Tertiary Education or enter the world of work. This research aims to contribute to the field of youth guidance in the school environment. It falls within the framework of ‘Linee Guida Nazionali per l’Orientamento Permanente’ (the latest reference in the Italian legislation for orientation) on the promotion of a formative approach to Orientation (intended as the processes that lead to an educational/professional choice). The latter is to be integrated to the much more diffused informative method. By applying a human-centred approach this thesis provides insights into people’s needs, desires, and pain points around decision making. The concept of self-exploration has been investigated as a life-long skill to support educational and professional choices. Based on the field research findings (interviews with experts from the world of Education and students), literature and a critical analysis of the intersection of the two, a set of guiding principles had been defined. These were then used to ideate a concept that has been tested – as Minimum Viable Product - by end users. This work does not intend to provide a conclusive answer to the problem of life decisions, but rather to start a conversation about a new life-long and strategic approach to orientation and the role of Education in the development of such mindset.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
