In times of change such as the ones we live in today, society has to face increasingly wicked problems that public institutions and the market can’t address nor provide solutions for. Faced with this increasing social awareness, people progressively activate and organize in so-called “creative communities” (Meroni, 2007), creating social conversations to collaboratively develop solutions to face their daily life challenges and giving life to social innovation. Within such collaborative contexts the role of the designer achieves a strategic valence, providing an essential contribution by the facilitation of collective innovation and therefore becoming an agent of societal transformation. Nevertheless the strong motivation of these community members and the urgency to address daily problems can make the integration of the diverse individuals’ perspectives difficult, thus compromising dialogue and effective collaboration toward the reach of common goals. What can the designer do within such communities to protect the psycho-relational needs of these groups? How can he or her integrate this attention within the participatory design process, helping groups to reach performing collaboration? My thesis is born trying to answer to this question, which was originated by the observation of organizational groups’ dynamics and stemmed from the contact with one of these communities within the solidarity economy field; specifically I asked myself how a participatory design approach could integrate with the Group Psychology approach, which I could discover along my work experience within a training and consultancy firm. After a wide bibliographic and in field research, my developed proposal is CoDESign, a methodological journey for the building of a design-orienting scenario within creative communities to foster integration, trigger constructive dialogue and facilitate their growth as a group towards effective collaboration. Through a five steps journey I developed and prototyped this participatory design approach with a group of people from the Solidarity Economy District of Varese province, reaching the creation of a shared and desired vision within which to develop a local distribution network for their territory. The project, integrating co-design tools and methods with a process consultancy approach, allowed for the creation of a shared safe environment, thus fostering individuals valuing and the strengthening of relations.

Abstract
The project, integrating co-design tools and methods with a process consultancy approach, allowed for the creation of a shared safe environment, thus fostering individuals valuing and the strengthening of relations.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
