Human-centered design is a methodology assisting the search for solutions to interior design problems with differing levels of involvement of the end-users in all phases of the process. Human-centered design can aid in the creation of accurate solutions to design problems. Academics and companies have been promoting numerous methodologies over the years. However, the usual required criteria related to human-centered design may evoke a sense of disorientation among those who work in the world of business and who study this phenomenon. Stemming from the interior designer’s emphasis on the broad impact of the built environment, this study focuses on human-centered design and its methodologies with the aim of raising interior designer’s awareness of those methodologies and guiding designers in their practical application. This study is a review of academic literature on human-centered design and research on companies already working in the field. Firstly, the research examines previous studies of interior designers who facilitated the detection of user behaviors and determined the principles of human-centered design. The study then reveals the most beneficial design methods with brief explanations and guidelines to help interior designers. Furthermore, this research verifies certain different approaches in educational and business environments inasmuch as there were few studies on this subject and it was not known to what extent significant differences existed. The study concluded with the verification of advantages and disadvantages of human-centered design and methods. The research direction culminated in the analysis of interior designers’ attitudes using a survey and interviews. The survey results revealed the reasons behind the adoption of human-centered design methods, their ease of use, in addition to issues of time and cost. The interviews clarified for academicians and professionals the approaches of human-centered designers. Having conducted extensive analysis, this research presents a potential handbook style template that provides detailed information for those who want to apply human-centered design methods in interior design projects.

Abstract
Having conducted extensive analysis, this research presents a potential handbook style template that provides detailed information for those who want to apply human-centered design methods in interior design projects.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
